A fresh single.....its Hip-Hop/Pop!!

Its about travelling Australia teaching in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, picking up a re-deeming dreaming across home, finding some place to fit in.....

Its about this great southern land - 'Australia' - and wondering when and where are the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this continent meant to fit in.

Its about the love of life, and remembering....

Its fantastic to be Aboriginal (Fab-original)

Peace

Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion - St Paul's

Hi all

hows it?

Check the Galley for pics of the day.

We had a gathering of our yr 12 class from

St Paul's School - Bald Hills in Brisbane.

Was way kewel!

Nice to see some heads that i hadn't seen in years.

Only one Teacher - Mr Broom - Manual Arts.

No sign of our illustrious Headmaster, nor was there a showing of our Senior Master. (They both attended last years)

Obviously the Music Teacher/Conductor (Gammy...Arrrrrgh!) wasn't with us either.

We shot a doco, took heaps of pics.

A couple of lads reflected on incidents at school camps by the above teacher, and wished him all the best in his new situation.

Phalanx_84 - Wally Graduate Ol Dirty Mix - makes even more sense.

Pretty funny that even tho thru age and the bearing of a couple of kids....some people in there infinite wisdom like to try to suggest a fraction equation to Aboriginality, as i said....how do you measure an asshole....Tony - how do you?

I wouldn'tve missed this for the world.....nothing better than looking an asshole and a bigot in the face!

Gareth - where were you??

Caught up with some more crew from Brissie, Odette, Vanessa, Ty, Juzmo, John, Michelle, KitKat an bub 1.1, Drew, Jenny Fraser, Koemba's - Maz Miller, Lorna, and Raymond.

Great to see David Chambers......been ages.

Got very drunk.....those shots....that barmaid!

And the "New" Newmarket Hotel. - noice

Breaky at Spoon - David, John, and moi.

Pool at the Pav....Listened to a few disks with John, Juzmo, Ty and Tilley. luvs ya's

NAIDOC WEEK

Hey all u mob!

Have a rockin NAIDOC!

Cam Slamm
xxoo

National NAIDOC - What is Naidoc?

NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia in the first full week in July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week (see History of NAIDOC), and its acronym has become the name of the week itself.

The week is celebrated not just in the Indigenous community, but also in increasing numbers of government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces.

NAIDOC has its origins in the fight for Aboriginal rights that began to gather pace in the 1920s and 1930s. In those years, organisations such as the Australian Aborigines Progress Association, the Australian Aborigines League, and the Aborigines Progressive Association were established to draw attention to the living conditions suffered by Aboriginal people and their lack of citizenship rights.

In 1937 activists William Cooper and William Ferguson joined forces to plan a ‘Day of Mourning’ for 26 January 1938, the 150th anniversary of British settlement of Australia. Around 1000 Aboriginal people attended a conference on that day, and the following week a deputation presented the Prime Minister with a proposed national policy for Aboriginal people. (This was rejected because the Commonwealth then had no constitutional responsibility for Aboriginal affairs.)

Cooper also wrote to the National Missionary Council of Australia (NMCA) seeking its support in promoting a permanent annual Aborigines Day. From 1940 the NMCA encouraged churches to observe the Sunday before the Australia Day weekend as ‘Aboriginal Sunday’. In 1955 the NMCA changed the date to the first Sunday in July.

In 1957 a National Aborigines Day Observance Committee (NADOC) was formed with support and cooperation from Federal and State governments, the churches and major Indigenous organisations. Its aim was to promote Aboriginal Sunday as a day to focus community attention on the nation’s Aboriginal people.

After the 1967 Aboriginal Referendum and the establishment in 1972 of a Federal Department of Aboriginal Affairs, the national focus on Indigenous issues increased significantly. In 1974 NADOC became an all-Indigenous committee, and in 1975 extended Aboriginal Day to National Aborigines Week.

In 1985 NADOC agreed to change the dates of the week from July to September and in 1988 the committee’s name was changed to NAIDOC—National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee—to acknowledge Torres Strait Islander people.

In 1991 the committee decided to shift the celebrations back to the first week in July (Sunday to Sunday) starting from 1992.

Been busy down at shed 14 - 800 a day and last sunday they had 2100 thru the doors.

Had the Premier down last Friday with a full throng of Press and advisors.

Unfortunately for him he and his throng avoided us. (As it turns out he doesnt like meeting and talking to Aboriginal People)

Shame really!

We were given an apology by NEXTWAVE's Festival Director - Marcus Westbury, not once but twice.

Checkout the video of the "OUTBLACK' instalation thats online. (clipshack.com).

The Victorian Arts Minister - Mary Delahunty popped thru yesterday and had a good look and yak.

I explained to her what the instalation was saying.

'That Aboriginality in Australia is contained, kitch. Considering the diversity thats existed for 140,000 years, yet in 217 years of occupation we've been boxed into a Beuocratic Friendly Kitch Native ho hum representation of ourselves." (in a nutshell)

She thought it was very good!

Its on till Sun.

So go check it out!

P.s. - Dont forget ma gig (PROPAGANDA KLANN)  this Sat arvo @ The BMW EDGE THEATRE - FED SQR.

Australia Day Speech

Hey all

Hope your all well!

Some of you may know, others may not.

My Mum recently was awarded - "Senior Australian of the Year'

Here's the speech from the day.

Enjoy

cam

xx

[Begins here]

I acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the Ngunnawal people and thank them for allowing me a Wiradjuri woman to speak on their country.

Actually, my paternal granny was a Ngunnawal woman.

Thank you,

I feel so humble.

I’ve been so busy doing what I enjoy, that I didn’t realize that I was a senior citizen.

There are many senior people doing as I do, leading active lives and making strong contributions to the Australian community.

I feel very proud.

I am proud to be a nurse and particularly proud to be an Aboriginal nurse.

The road has not been easy and we need to be more accepting of each other.

To quote Propaganda Klann:

‘Collected as one, stand forth as a nation’

I must thank my husband George and son Cameron for their love and support.

Without them I wouldn’t be here.
